You can find the latest numbers for VA disability, pension, and survivor’s benefits waiting on review or approval. On July 1, we noted more than 852,000 pending applications sitting in the VA’s claims inventory:
- As of July 1, 2023: 852,876
- As of June 3, 2023: 829,126
- Difference: +23,750
- Daily churn: +1,188 claims

- Daily churn: +1,038 claims added to the backlog
The following types of claims most likely to fall into the VA’s backlog for July:
- 67% are supplemental claims for PACT Act presumptive disability conditions
- 26% are initial applications for VA disability benefits
- 5% are pension claims
- 2% are for veteran DIC benefits
