Looking Deeper at How the June 2017 SSD Benefits Statistics Report Impacts Beneficiaries

The June report shows two fairly large numerical shifts compared to what we saw in May. First, the total number of disability recipients fell by 47,000. We can attribute most of that loss to 40,000 children removed from beneficiary rolls. According to the June 2017 SSD benefits statistics report, disabled workers receiving benefits fell by 7,000 total. Included in these changing numbers are recently deceased beneficiaries, fraudulent claims, and individuals who found work since May. Another interesting number in the June 2017 SSD benefits statistics report is the number of beneficiary spouses: 132,000. We’re pointing this one out because it’s remained static every month this year except for January, when it increased slightly to 133,000. This month’s numbers show the most variance month-to-month for 2017 to date, but overall, the disability assistance program’s stability remains sound.
